About Us

With very humble beginnings, BLR Architects was started out of the home of Bret Richter in June of 2000 after the birth of his fourth child Olivia. A spare bedroom of the Richter household was turned into an office and BLR Architects was born. After a year in the family home, Bret's wife Kim, strongly suggested that he move the business out of the house. Another space was bought, and Sean Rafferty was braught on board. Business grew rapidly. More employees were needed as was yet a bigger space. BLR Architects moved into the building at 1709 E. Ogden in March of 2003 where it currently resides. Business has continually grown.

BLR Architects was founded upon the principle that each design should be a product of team work between the client, the designer, and the builder. This collaborative effort allows for a design that exceeds the client's expectations while remaining within the budget.

BLR Architects has a wide array of clients including some of the Chicago areas largest home builders and several well established custom home builders. We also work with home owners that wish to have a hands on experience in the design of their new home.

Our specialized designs range from affordable, for the first time home owner who also wants ''that touch of customization'' to the multi-million dollar showcase home. BLR Architects is committed to providing exemplary service and effective communication while paying attention to every detail in the design process. This practice has afforded us both client loyalty as well as award winning designs.
