Free, thought provoking discussions about our regional history and culture with local authors and those who write about it. Authors from around Chicagoland will present their books in a fun and informal fashion every Saturday in October at 1pm. Join us for a deep discussion, coffee and refreshments in the Netzley/Yender Farmhouse. Seating is on a first come basis. Free parking available in the lot in front of the Beaubien Tavern, at Village Hall, and in the commuter parking lots. October 26 2 Books & 2 Authors! - "American Warsaw: The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of Polish Chicago" by Dominic Pacyga - "Chicago Bound 2 - Time and Again" by Sandra Colbert Dominic A. Pacyga is an emeritus professor at Columbia College/Chicago where he taught from 1984 until his retirement in 2017. He is the author or co-author of seven books on Chicago's history. American Warsaw describes the history of Chicago's Polish American community from its origins in the years before the Civil War to today. It describes the development of a largely peasant and working-class urban immigrant community as it developed over generations and moved largely to the suburbs. Sandra Colbert is the author of Chicago Bound and the Kate Harrison Mystery series. Chicago Bound 2 is a collection of short stories that take place in the 'Back of the Yards' area as well as other areas of Chicago, including stories in different decades and from different viewpoints, several of which are tied to the ethnic cultures of Chicago.
